Instructor Mark Hamrock has been teaching students at all levels become accomplished guitarists for over 20 years. Because Mark studied with guitar great Rusty Anderson (guitarist for Paul McCartney, Elton John, Willy Nelson, Santana), he knows how to guide students through the thickets. He also studied classical guitarist with David Tannenbaum and Scott Tennant, and jazz theory with Alan Rowe (Stan Kenton Orchestra). Mark toured and performed with guitar legends including Larry Carlton, Tim Reynolds (Dave Matthews Band), and Dave Mason of Traffic.

Hamrock Music is located conveniently off the 405 & 5 freeway interchange north of Dana Point. If you are looking for a method that has been honed from years of experience to improve your playing in a timely manner, look no further!

Lessons are also offered online (Skype and Zoom). Many students have been preferring this method as they can easily record the lessons and a running chat dialogue is kept with materials and assignments.

Music Events and Venues in Dana Point

Dana Point is home to two world class music festivals hosted at Doheny Beach State Park. The annual Doheny Blues Festival has had some of the biggest names in blues including Joe Walsh, Robin Trower, Buddy Guy, Kenny Wayne Sheperd, Joe Bonamassa, B.B. King, Robert Cray, Sonny Landreth, and many more performing under the sun and stars on Doheny beach. The Ohana Festival, put on by Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder, has hosted major musical artists including the Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Strokes, Jack Johnson, Kings of Leon, and more.
If you’re looking for smaller live music venues check out Stillwater Spirits and Sounds and Hennessey’s Tavern, all three are great places to see up and coming talent and meet the locals.
Acoustic For a Change is a non-profit organization based in Dana Point that provides instruments to underprivileged children and organizations that work with them. Founder Arturo Escharte is a former student of Hamrock Music Instruction.
